Hugo Chávez Essay -- Biography Chavez President Venezuela Essays

Hugo Chà ¡vez El Comandante! El Comandante! If you scream that in the streets of Venezuela, there is only one person you could possibly be referring to – Hugo Chà ¡vez. The current president of the South American country, Venezuela, has been in power for the past four years. His time in office has been criticized by most and glorified by some. He has had the backing of other countries such as Cuba, Colombia, Brazil, Libya and Iraq. On the other hand, the United States has had a continuous growth of confusion for Chà ¡vez’s actions. The leader’s intentions have been surrounded by a circle of uncertainty. Chà ¡vez’s life as president or even before those days has been far from interesting. Hugo Chà ¡vez has been a leader, a commander and a revolutionist. Hugo Rafael Chà ¡vez Frà ­as was born in Sabaneta de Barinas, a small town in the lightly populated savannah. His young life was simple. He grew up selling bananas and sowing corn. He enjoyed the academics and had a thirst for knowledge. Chà ¡vez excelled in baseball, the country’s national pastime. Josà © Là ³pez, Chà ¡vez’s baseball coach, described the youngster as, â€Å"A tough little kid, mischievous, a real talker and dreamer, but as tenacious as hell† (Rother). As he grew up he had a growing curiosity towards the military and those with power. He was assigned to many regions where he performed different duties. He also had the opportunity to meet numerous people. A former classmate and friend of Chà ¡vez, Jesà ºs Hernà ¡ndez recalled, â€Å"We were a group of four or five captains who used to jog together in the afternoons, and one day in 1983 Chà ¡vez suggested we swear an oath to fight against corruption and for the welfare of our country†¦from that moment on, we began to study the pr... .... Lesson Plan for Social Studies Class Grades 9-12

UnitSocial Studies:   The Civil War — Emancipation ExperienceObjectiveThrough this lesson, the students will be able to:  1. Given a particular situation, recognize the period of history portrayed following the inquiry period.  2.   Given a particular scenario, distinguish groups after the inquiry period.  3.   Study and come into contact with changeable emotions of every group.  4.   Examine and differentiate the differences in the lifestyle of every group.  5.   Assume/imagine and identify with what life was like for Americans during that period.RationaleHardly any event in mankind can measure up to the damage and destruction of war.   However, nearly every generation of man cannot break away from its ongoing reality. Our country has also had its won share of experiences of war. Ever since our origin, with the American Revolutionary War, our country has already been at war.   In addition, in our 200 plus years of survival there was one war that cannot be matched up to to any other war when measured in terms of devastation and American loss of lives — the American Civil War.   Just like any civil war there is no winner- just a loser, as losses on both sides make up the entire loss of that nation.   This lesson will try to look at the changes that occurred in the lives of Americans that were the outcome of this catastrophic war.Therefore, the rationale of this inquiry lesson is to provide students an affective encounter of the pre and post American Civil War incident on Americans- both Whites and Blacks (or northerners and southerners).ContentGroup activity using charts and internalizing the role of each groups involved in the Civil War.Procedures1.   By means of random, divide class into three (3) groups- A, B, C according to size.Group A (Slaves)  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   1/4 of classGroup B (S. Whites)   1/4 of classGroup C (N. Thus, Group A stood for the Black Slaves of the South.   The, take note of the change in Group's A status from Part I to Part III depicting the changes from the Pre to the Post Civil War period.Meanwhile, for Group B, in Part I, they were instructed to sit on chairs and eat whole crackers and also to move freely. As a society we often judge or form opinions based on others according to their gender, race and class; this is called stereotyping. Stereotyping involves making generalizations to describe or differentiate a group. Stereotypes are harmful to women and their experiences, because they can cause bad decision making that can lead to negative outcomes. Anney Boatwright in Dorothy Allison’s novel Bastards Out of Carolina is heavily burdened by the stereotype of being identified as ‘white trash,’ which leads her to making unorthodox decisions regarding her family in hope of breaking free of this white trash stereotype. Stereotypes are destructive in the shaping of individuals’ lives, because they make us disregard differences between individuals. Since stereotypes are everywhere and they are impossible to escape Anney finds herself conforming to gender stereotypes in order to try to rid herself of this white trash stereotype. Gender stereotyping plays a major rol e in the white trash stereotype that is both racialized and classed. This gender stereotype of women needing a man in their life is taught from birth. In traditional white families both parents are usually in their children’s life, the women are typically stay at home mothers that take care of the cooking and cleaning, the men have white-collar jobs and they typically live a privileged lifestyle, but since Anney is the exact opposite of this she is stereotyped as white trash.
